Warriors willing to trade a pair of All-Stars?

Exactly a year ago, the 23-28 Los Angeles Lakers sat in 13th place in the Western Conference. All hope was lost, it seemed.

Then came the Feb. 8 trade deadline, where the Lakers cashed in on their chips to the point where they soared to the seventh seed by the end of the season and made a deep playoff run -- all the way to the Western Conference Finals.

Could this year's Warriors replicate last year's Lakers?

The Warriors are currently 19-24 and in serious danger of missing out on a play-in berth. However, with the Feb. 8 trade deadline fast approaching, the Warriors have one last roll of the dice to try and turn their fortunes around.

On Tuesday's edition of "Run it Back" on FanDuel TV, NBA insider Shams Charania doubled down on his earlier reporting that the Warriors are shopping everyone on the roster except Stephen Curry.

"They’re gonna take calls on Andrew Wiggins and Chris Paul," Charania said. "Could they get interest even for a guy like Klay Thompson? Those are very much open conversations for the Warriors."

As for emerging star Jonathan Kuminga and promising rookie Brandin Podziemski, Charania noted that the Warriors view the duo as "part of their core moving forward" but have not necessarily placed the "untouchable" tag upon them -- in large part due to the 35-year-old Curry's timeline.

"They’ve lost six of eight games. Everyone is on the table except for Steph Curry," Charania added.

If the Warriors fail to resurrect the second half of the season, they risk wasting another year of Curry's prime – a year after getting bounced out in the second round of the playoffs. To make matters worse, the Warriors are not incentivized to enter the proverbial "tank mode" since their first-round pick (protected top 4) would be surrendered to the Portland Trail Blazers as part of the Andre Iguodala trade from 2019. For the Warriors to hold onto their first-round pick, they’d have to finish with one of the worst records in the league and hope that the basketball gods smile upon them during the NBA Draft Lottery.
