Warriors 'already internally discussed the idea' of deal for Damian Lillard?

The Golden State Warriors are reportedly considered a potential destination for Damian Lillard if the Portland Trail Blazers decide to trade him this summer.

"They'd make a call and have already internally discussed the idea, as I'm sure most contenders have, considering the rising smoke out of Portland," The Athletic's Anthony Slater wrote on the Warriors.

Lillard is signed through the 2024-25 season, though he could force a trade out of Portland, according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports. Teams are "intensely monitoring" Lillard's situation with the Trail Blazers to look for an opening to make trade offers, The Athletic's Shams Charania added.

The Philadelphia 76ers and New York Knicks are rumored to be among the teams interested in the veteran guard.

According to Slater, the Warriors could offer Portland arguably the best trade package for Lillard, including James Wiseman, plus the No. 7 and 14 picks in the 2021 NBA draft. The team could also add Andrew Wiggins and future first-rounders to complete a trade.

Pairing Lillard with Stephen Curry would give the Warriors one of the best backcourts in the NBA, especially considering Klay Thompson is expected to return from the torn ACL that kept him sidelined all last season.

However, it's unclear if Lillard would want to be moved to Golden State as the Warriors have missed the playoffs in back-to-back seasons, and their championship window appears to be closing.
