Video: Dennis Schroder Shoves Mike Conley For Shooting A Three At The End Of The Timberwolves-Nets Game
Matt Krohn-USA TODAY Sports

Tempers flared at the end of Saturday's game between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Brooklyn Nets. With the Timberwolves leading 98-86 in the closing stages, Mike Conley shot a three as the shot clock was expiring, and Dennis Schroder took offense to it.

This is just a really bad look for Schroder. There were over 20 seconds left in the game, and no one would really blame Conley for taking that shot. This wasn't a case of someone trying to run up the score and break the "unwritten rule," as the Timberwolves guard just didn't want a shot clock violation.

None of Schroder's teammates had an issue with Conley shooting it either. They didn't react at all to the shot, and none of them even had anything to say to him afterward. As for why the German might have had an issue, it seems he was picking fights with Conley and Nickeil Alexander-Walker all game.

"Schroder was picking fights with Conley and Alexander-Walker all game. That was brewing for a while. But it's over now. Wolves are gonna win.

He was probably frustrated, and the shot just gave him an excuse to go at the veteran. Schroder would get a technical foul for the incident, as would Jaden McDaniels and Alexander-Walker, who went at him. Conley didn't have a strong reaction to the shove, so he didn't get one.

It meant he continued his remarkable streak of never getting a technical in his career. This was Conley's 1077th regular season game, and it's absurd, in the best possible way, that he has never gotten one. It's no wonder that he is often referred to as the nicest guy in the NBA.

As for his play in the game, Conley had 14 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 steal as the Timberwolves won 101-86 to improve to 40-17 on the season. He is 36 years old now but remains very effective on the court. The Timberwolves rewarded Conley for his good play with a two-year, $20.75 million extension earlier this week.

Schroder, meanwhile, had 9 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 assist off the bench here as the Nets dropped to 21-35. He hasn't quite made the impact that the Nets thought he might after they acquired him at the trade deadline from the Toronto Raptors.

A Scuffle Broke Out In The Warriors-Hornets Game On Friday

This ended up being the second straight night that we saw tempers flare over a shot attempt late in a game. With the Golden State Warriors leading by double digits against the Charlotte Hornets, Lester Quinones attempted a layup when there were less than 15 seconds left in the contest. Miles Bridges took offense to it, and a scuffle broke out.

The hilarious part of this has to be that Steve Kerr and Steve Clifford were having a nice friendly conversation and shaking hands as it happened. When they realized a scuffle had broken out, the two rushed onto the court to separate their players and calm things down.

Bridges did get supported by his teammates, with Grant Williams getting face-to-face with Quinones. They both would get ejected, while Bridges got away with just a technical. After the game, Brandin Podziemski said Kerr would cover Quinones' fine, as he had just signed a $35 million extension. I sure hope he does it.
