Toronto Raptors Release A Player

Kevin Obanor played five seasons of college basketball for Oral Roberts and Texas Tech.

Last season, he averaged 14.4 points and 6.4 rebounds points per contest in 32 games for the Red Raiders.

This summer, Obanor went undrafted in the 2023 NBA Draft but played for the Toronto Raptors in Summer League.

In August, he was signed by the Raptors, but Blake Murphy of Sportsnet now reports that Obanor has been waived (h/t Hoops Rumors). 

Via Murphy: "The Raptors have waived Kevin Obanor. 

Obanor was on an Exhibit 10 camp/905 deal.

 This opens a camp spot, likely for another Ex10 type."

Based on the information from Murphy, it would not be a surprise to see the Raptors sign someone in the next few days.

Moves like this continue to happen around the league as teams sign and waive players ahead of training camp (which begins in October).

If no other team picks up Obanor, he could end up with the Raptors' G League affiliate (Raptors 905). 

Over his five seasons in college, Obanor had career averages of 13.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per contest while shooting 50.1% from the field and 38.1% from the three-point range in 156 games. 

As for the Raptors, they are coming off a year where they were the ninth seed in the Eastern Conference with a 41-41 record. 

They lost to the Chicago Bulls in the play-in tournament, so they were unable to make the NBA playoffs. 

That said, they still have a solid roster led by All-Star Pascal Siakam.
