Spencer Dinwiddie Chooses Lakers Over Mavs; Will Sign Contract After Clearing Waivers
USA TODAY Sports

The Dallas Mavericks were hoping to land Spencer Dinwiddie on the buyout market to address their need for a third ball-handler off the bench, especially with Dante Exum being out due to several injuries. However, it appears that Dallas’ pitch couldn’t complete with what the Los Angeles Lakers had to offer him.

According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Dinwiddie will sign with the Lakers after he clears waivers on Saturday evening.

Although Dallas probably represented the best fit for Dinwiddie, as he shot career-highs 46.6 percent from the field and 40.4 percent from deep in his only Mavs stint, the idea of going back home to Los Angeles where his family is at was too enticing for him to pass up.

The Mavs still have an open roster spot, and there are some interesting names to keep an eye on, including Marcus Morris, who could be interested in joining his brother, Markieff, in Dallas. Marcus and Luka Doncic have had their history in the past when the Mavs and Clippers battled in the playoffs for two consecutive years, but Doncic would surely welcome the toughness he brings to the roster if a signing happens.
