Sacramento Kings acquiring Kessler Edwards from the Brooklyn Nets
Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

The Sacramento Kings have acquired Kessler Edwards from the Brooklyn Nets, as first reported by Sham Charania of The Athletic and confirmed by multiple sources.

James Ham adds that the Kings will waive Deonte Burton to create the open roster spot. Burton was on a 10-day deal with Sacramento.

Kessler Edwards fits into the Kings Traded Player Exception (TPE) that was created in the Marvin Bagley trade. That TPE was about to expire, but instead allows the Kings to acquire Edwards without sending back matching salary.

Edwards is 6'8" small forward who has shown flashes of ability, but struggled to find a consistent role in Brooklyn. At just 22 years old, he still has plenty of upside, and is a great use of a TPE. The Kings will have a chance to look at a young player at a position of need while not losing any other assets as they approach the trade deadline.
