Russell Westbrook Set to Energize Clippers with Anticipated Return
Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Clippers are on the brink of welcoming back Russell Westbrook to their lineup, possibly as early as their next match against the Indiana Pacers on Monday, as reported by NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski. This game would mark three weeks since Westbrook’s surgery for a fractured left hand incurred during a game against the Washington Wizards on March 1.

In Westbrook’s absence, the Clippers have felt the void of the dynamic play and spirited hustle that the esteemed sixth man and former MVP brings to the court. Their record stands at an even 5-5 in the games without him, as they headed into Friday’s match against Portland.

This season, Westbrook has contributed averages of 11.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 4.4 assists over 58 games. Initially starting the season in the starting lineup, Westbrook transitioned to a bench role following the James Harden trade, a move that sparked a significant improvement in the team’s cohesion and performance.

From his first game off the bench to the unfortunate hand injury, the Clippers showcased a robust 28-8 record. The anticipated return of Westbrook is expected to inject a much-needed boost into the Clippers’ performance, particularly after a recent slump where the team lost four of their last five matches.

The team’s spirit was highlighted during a recent 116-103 victory over Portland, where James Harden playfully closed out on Kawhi Leonard during a 3-point attempt, aiming to lift the team’s spirits.

Harden remarked on the incident, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a positive atmosphere within the team during tough times.

“Got to bring some excitement to the team,” Harden reflected. “I think these last few weeks have been a fog for us, and I think every team goes through it. So I think it is just me trying to create a great energy, create a great vibe for this team. I mean, it would have been better if he would have made the shot. Just give something to laugh about, some excitement for the season.”
