The Rockets intend to waive veteran forward/center Derrick Favors, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Favors, 30, was acquired by the Rockets in a trade with the Thunder — who acquired him early in the offseason in a deal with the Jazz.
But he appears to be the odd big man out in Houston, after the team also acquired center Boban Marjanovic in a trade with the Mavericks and center Willie Cauley-Stein in free agency. Cauley-Stein could be the next to go, given that his deal is non-guaranteed.
Favors returned to the Jazz before the start of last season after a one-year stint with the Pelicans. He averaged a career-low 5.4 points, as well as 5.5 rebounds, in 68 appearances last year, all while coming off the bench. He still has two years remaining on his contract.
