Report hands the Chicago Bulls a grade of C+ for its offseason signings
USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Bulls entered the new season expecting to be at least better than they were last season after signing two high-quality role players in the offseason. However, the acquisitions of Jevon Carter and Torrey Craig have done little to improve the Bulls’ standing in the NBA’s hierarchy, as they have stumbled to a 7-14 start this season. For this reason, Bleacher Report has graded the Bulls’ offseason moves a C+.

Jevon hasn’t panned out

Expectations were high for Jevon Carter as he was believed to be the missing piece of the puzzle that is the Bulls’ point guard rotation. After a brilliant season in Milwaukee, wherein he thrived with averages of 8.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game while shooting a blistering 42 percent from three-point land.

Unfortunately, the 28-year-old has not lived up to expectations in Chicago, averaging just 5.5 points on 36.2 percent from beyond the arc.

The same can be said of Craig, who started 60 games for the Phoenix Suns last season and shot 39 percent from three-point country. This season, despite being given the opportunity to start in lieu of the struggling Patrick Williams, Craig wasn’t able to take advantage and has been bumped back to the bench.

Should have blown the roster up

Aside from the signing of Carter and Craig, the Bulls also went and re-signed Nikola Vucevic, Coby White, and Ayo Dosunmu to new deals. While White and Vucevic have been solid as starters, Dosunmu has been in and out of the rotation, no thanks to the logjam at the guard position.

While the Bulls are playing better of late, the three straight victories are doing little to drown out criticisms of how the team should have hit the reset button in the offseason.

“Of course, the zoomed-out criticism that Chicago kept a mediocre core together when it should have blown things up still stands,” Grant Hughes wrote.
