Pistons’ Trade Acquisition From Knicks Could Debut This Week
USA Today

The Detroit Pistons acquired multiple players from the New York Knicks at the 2024 trade deadline. So far, the veteran guard Evan Fournier has made three appearances with the Pistons since landing on the team.

As for the 23-year-old Quentin Grimes, his Detroit debut remains on hold.

When the Pistons landed Grimes, they knew the young veteran was dealing with a knee-related setback. He had been inactive with the Knicks since the start of the month.

The All-Star break typically serves as an opportunity for players to rest and recover from minor setbacks. While Grimes has been trending in the right direction, the time off didn’t allow him to return to action as early as Thursday’s game against the Indiana Pacers.

While Grimes remains off the floor for the Pistons, he’s still trending in the right direction as he managed to participate in his first full practice on Wednesday, according to The Athletic’s James Edwards.

The last time Grimes appeared on the court was during the Knicks’ January 30 victory over the Utah Jazz. In that outing, Grimes collected a 20-minute shift off the bench. He knocked down 40 percent of his shots from the field, producing 12 points, six rebounds, and two assists.

Prior to getting traded, he was inactive for three straight games in New York. Since landing with the Pistons, Grimes missed the entire five-game road trip they just wrapped up.

Following Thursday’s loss in Indiana, the Pistons will return home on Saturday to host the Orlando Magic. Grimes’ playing status is currently unclear. If he can’t get the nod to go against the Magic, his next opportunity to play would come on Monday, February 26, when the Pistons pay a visit to the New York Knicks.
