Pistons' asking price for Bojan Bogdanovic revealed

In the midst of a roster rebuild, Bojan Bogdanovic has stood out as one of the Detroit Piston's best players. At 34 years old, Bogdanovic isn't on the same timeline as Detroit. As such, it makes sense that the front office could be amiable to trade for their star veteran during the off-season.

According to a recent report by longtime NBA writer Marc Stein, the Pistons are expecting to receive some first-round draft capital in return for their veteran forward. Stein also noted how the Dallas Mavericks have shown interest in Bogdanovic recently but have other areas they would like to strengthen first.

"While the Mavericks are indeed among the teams with a longstanding interest in acquiring Detroit's Bojan Bogdanović, their trade priority at this point of the offseason is still believed to be an upgrade at center," Stein wrote. "The Pistons have been seeking no less than a future first-round pick for Bogdanović for months."

At this stage in his career, Bogdanovic is better suited to contending for championships than he is leading a rebuilding team. After nine years in the league, Bogdanovic has proven himself to be a legitimate three-level scorer who excels beyond the perimeter. There will be countless teams looking to acquire a player with Bogdanovic's skillset, should he genuinely be made available.

However, there is a slight hitch. Bogdanovic is entering the first year of his new two-year, $39 million deal. In the upcoming season, the prolific scorer is set to earn $20 million in base salary. The second year of Bogdanovic's contract is worth $19 million but is partially guaranteed with an initial hit of $2 million, per Spotrac.

At this point in the summer, contending teams don't have the required cap space to simply absorb Bogdanovic into their roster. Any interested team may need to part ways with a member of their roster to get a deal over the line, and that means the Pistons will want a young talent with upside to help boost their ranks. Unfortunately, most contending teams don't have that type of asset readily available, especially this deep into the off-season.

Bogdanovic will likely start the new season with the Pistons, yet you can expect interest in his services to reach fever pitch as we get closer to the February trade deadline, where we may finally see him get a chance to contend for a ring.
