Philadelphia 76ers Get Concerning Tyrese Maxey Update Ahead Of Game 2 Against New York Knicks
Wendell Cruz-USA TODAY Sports

The status of Philadelphia 76ers point guard Tyrese Maxey for Game 2 appears to be up in the air.

Maxey was dominant in Game 1, leading the Sixers in scoring with 33 points on 14/26 shooting to go along with four assists, two rebounds, and three triples. Losing Maxey for even a single game would be a serious blow for Philly’s chances of a series upset.

Philadelphia 76ers Guard Tyrese Maxey Is Questionable For Game 2

Multiple reports have emerged that Maxey is currently dealing with an illness ahead of the second game of the Knicks-76ers series.

Sixers guards Kyle Lowry, Buddy Hield, and Cam Payne would be expected to receive additional burn on Monday if Maxey is unable to suit up.

When it comes to health, Maxey has been one of the most dependable players on the 76ers’ roster this season. Paul Reed led the team by playing all 82 games. Maxey tied Tobias Harris for second on the team with 70 games played.

If Maxey feels even just a tiny bit healthy enough to play, he’d probably opt to push himself to be active for the matchup. The Sixers risk falling into a 0-2 hole before the series shifts to Philadelphia.

The Philadelphia 76ers Are Already Dealing With An Injured Joel Embiid

With Maxey feeling under the weather, that means both of the 76ers’ marquee players aren’t at 100%. Embiid, who just recently returned from a knee injury, had a scare during Game 1 but was able to finish the contest.

Embiid flanked Maxey with 29 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists. But he was evidently hobbled and shot just 8/22 from the field in the contest.

The 76ers face an uphill battle against the Knicks in the series. Adding injuries and illnesses to their list of challenges only makes the climb to win the series even steeper.
