Pair of Clippers sent home for early All-Star break after months of frustration

The Los Angeles Clippers play their final game before the All-Star break on Wednesday night at home against the Golden State Warriors.

Two players won't be joining the team but are expected to come back next week.

According to a report by Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Clippers and power forward P.J. Tucker have had "productive discussions" this week about his "staying ready for potentially re-entering the rotation."

"The conversations stemmed from weeks of boiling frustrations surrounding Tucker and his lack of playing time, according to those sources," the report said. "It led to much-needed and strong conversations among all parties, those sources said."

Tucker was acquired by Los Angeles on Halloween as a part of trade that sent former MVP guard James Harden to the Clippers as well. Since moving west, Tucker has averaged career lows in points (1.2), rebounds (2.4) and minutes per game (14.4) through 12 contests (no starts).

He played in the team's first dozen games after his arrival but hasn't suited up since Nov. 27.

It was reported ahead of last week's trade deadline that the 38-year-old was "actively looking to get traded."

Charania wrote Wednesday that the Athletic reported in December that the two sides were discussing a "resolution to his frustration via a move elsewhere or internally." He added that a buyout hasn't "gained traction yet" and Tucker has an $11.5M player option for next season.

Guard Bones Hyland was traded from the Denver Nuggets to Los Angeles last February and his playing time has dipped in his first full season with the Clippers.

The 23-year-old is averaging career lows across the board in his third season in points (6.2), assists (1.7) and minutes per game (13.2) across 19 games (two starts). Hyland hasn't played in a game since Jan. 31.
