New York Knicks: Tom Thibodeau Reveals 1 Regret About Tyrese Maxey Approach
Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

New York Knicks fans were already making mental plans for the second round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs when their team went up by six points after Miles McBride buried a jumper with under 30 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter of Tuesday night’s home game against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Sixers star guard Tyrese Maxey had other plans, though.

Maxey exploded late in regulation to help the 76ers force overtime, where they completed the comeback bid to score a 112-106 road win and necessitate a Game 6 back in Philly.

New York Knicks Head Coach Tom Thibodeau Rues Shortcoming Against Tyrese Maxey

Knick head coach Tom Thibodeau implied to reporters in the postgame press conference that New York did not defend Maxey as tight as it should have.

“Maxey had a huge game on us, Thibodeau said. We gave him too much.”

Thibodeau and the Knicks can only think about the what-ifs after such a painful loss. Their focus now shifts on trying to close out the series again, with Game 6 scheduled to take place on Thursday in Philly.

“It was a tough way to lose because you get up six, eight and then we had a couple turnovers and we’ve got to just be better,” Thibodeau said of the brutal loss, per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN). “Play tougher with the lead, use good judgement. Fourth quarter is different, understand the difference. So we can do better and we will.”
