New York Knicks Fan Stephen A. Smith Gets Major Trolling Over Hilarious Quentin Grimes Gaffe
Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

Stephen A. Smith has always claimed he’s a lifelong fan of the New York Knicks. But after mistaking Quentin Grimes as part of the team, fans are now trolling the NBA analyst for his on-air lapse.

Drafted in 2021, Grimes entered the league as the Los Angeles Clippers 25th pick that year. Along with a 2024 second-round pick, the Clips traded him shortly after to the Knicks.

Like most rookies not picked in the top 10, Grimes had a forgettable first year in the league. Over the course of 46 games, six of which he started for New York, the then-21 year old posted averages of 6.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, and a single assist per game. He also shot 40 percent from the field, 38 percent from beyond the perimeter, and 68 percent from the free throw line.

Things became more interesting for Grimes once his second year in the NBA started. Now the starting shooting guard for most of the Knicks games during the 2022-23 season, the sophomore saw his numbers increase to 11.3 points on 46 percent shooting from the field, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists.

Unfortunately, Grimes was traded halfway through the current season to the Detroit Pistons. From there, the shooting guard due to a lingering soreness related to a knee injury he suffered at the start of 2024. It remains to be seen what his future will be like in Motor City when the upcoming campaign starts later this year.

New York Knicks Fans Troll Stephen A. Smith After Funny Quentin Grimes Lapse

While it has been quite some time since Grimes was traded to Detroit, NBA analyst Stephen A. Smith must have missed the memo and mentioned him as part of the Knicks. In a video shared by Cynical on X:

As a result of his gaffe, Smith was trolled by fans online for forgetting Grimes wasn’t a part of the team anymore. In essence, the NBA analyst might have been referring to New York guard Miles McBride, instead of Grimes.

“rule #1: never listen to a stephen a knicks take EVER,” DeJ tweeted.

“Maybe he meant Deuce? Lmao,” a Jalen Brunson fan posted on the video.

“I looked uo to this man growing up. Yikes,” Julie Gilchrist said.

Even though fans trolled Smith for his mistake, the Knicks aren’t in the same position because they’re assured of a spot in the postseason. For sure, Jalen Brunson and company will show off in the playoffs and give the NBA analyst more better things to talk about.
