The league initiated its probe into Porter late in March after sportsbooks detected unusual betting patterns concerning his performance metrics in several games. It was discovered that Porter had disclosed details about his health to a bettor before a game on March 20 against the Sacramento Kings.

This led to a significant bet on his underperformance, which was flagged and subsequently not paid out by DraftKings due to suspicious circumstances.

Further findings revealed that Porter had placed multiple bets on NBA games, amounting to $54,094 through an associate’s betting account. These bets did not involve games in which he played but notably included a wager against his own team, the Raptors.

The incident has also sparked a broader discussion on the adequacy of current sports betting regulations, with Silver advocating for more robust measures to prevent such incidents. He highlighted the need to possibly restrict betting options involving players on two-way contracts to protect the sport’s integrity further.

In response to these findings, the Colorado Division of Gaming has contacted sportsbooks for any additional information on Porter’s betting activities within the state, emphasizing the ongoing nature of the investigation.
