Matthew Dellavedova signs with Kings after spending last season overseas

The Sacramento Kings signed guard Matthew Dellavedova on Friday, the team announced.

Dellavedova, 31, previously had two stints with the Cleveland Cavaliers, contributing during the team's back-to-back runs to the NBA Finals in 2015 and 2016. After helping Cleveland to a win in the 2016 NBA Finals, Dellavedova joined the Milwaukee Bucks on a sign-and-trade deal in 2016 with a four-year, $38.4 million contract.

After averaging just 6.0 points and 4.2 assists in more than two seasons with the Bucks, Dellavedova was traded back to Cleveland in December 2018. His second stint with the Cavaliers ended with a string of injuries and Dellavedova joined Australia's Melbourne United in July 2021.

During his one season with United, Dellavedova averaged 10.6 points and 4.9 assists. Melbourne finished the regular season with the best record in the National Basketball League, but lost in the first round of the league's four-team playoffs.

With Sacramento, Dellavedova will likely slot in as the third point guard behind starter De'Aaron Fox and 2021 top-10 draft pick Davion Mitchell. The Kings finished the 2021-22 season with a 30-52 record, 12th best in the Western Conference.
