Lou Williams says returning to Hawks was an easy decision

After his team’s win in the Atlanta Entertainment Basketball League (AEBL), Lou Williams was asked about his involvement in the league and how it makes a positive impact on the surrounding communities. The most notable piece was Lemon Pepper Lou talking about why he returned to Atlanta. “I thought we put together some pretty good stepping stones. It’s a very young team, a very talented team, a good core of guys that love playing with each other. I was embraced to be here, so I thought it was an easy decision.”

Briefly caught up with Hawks’ Lou Williams (@TeamLou23) after his team’s win to talk about his involvement with @AEBLHOOPS, his return to the Hawks & if he’s been able to check out the new young guys.

Williams had significant interest from other teams — Bucks and Pacers — in the Association, and I have to assume they were offering more lucrative deals than the one Travis Schlenk offered the three-time Sixth Man of the Year. A one-year, $5 million pact is the deal that brought Lemon Pepper Lou back to Atlanta, which doesn’t align with reports that he was seeking a two-three year deal, likely one of his last chances to get substantial money.

Instead, he chose to return to Atlanta, where he is loved and appreciated more than any other city could give. Williams is a critical part of this Hawks’ team, and with the addition of Delon Wright, Lou will be able to do what he does best — score. Wright scores, passes, defends, and rebounds at a high level for a guard, allowing Williams to focus on getting buckets. He also provides valuable leadership to Atlanta’s young core, but most importantly, to Trae Young.
