The Los Angeles Lakers need all the help they can get right now.

However, their latest signing might not even affect them but will only benefit their G League affiliate.

NBA guard Darren Collison has signed a deal with the South Bay Lakers and is hoping to help the team win its season in the G League.

Of course, Collison is also hoping that he will be called upon by the Lakers as well so he can return to the NBA again.

However, the chances of that happening are slim right now.

Calling Upon Collison

Collison hasn’t officially even been in the NBA since the 2018-2019 season when played for the Indiana Pacers.

However, he signed a 10-day deal with the Lakers earlier this year when COVID absences were decimating the team’s roster.

He played three games for LA and then was let go by the team after his contract expired.

Collison signing with the G League is a sign that he still wants to play in the big leagues, preferably with the Lakers.

However, Collison has always been known for his three-point shooting.

When he was in the NBA, his career three-point percentage was 39%.

Recently, the Lakers acquired DJ Augustin, another three-point assassin who has been playing very well for the squad.

Therefore, it’s unlikely that the Lakers will want another perimeter shooter like Collison.

But Collison might have luck elsewhere in the league.

During his career, he averaged 12.5 points, 5 assists, and 1.2 steals a game.

If Collison shows off his talent in the G League and makes some serious noise, some team in the NBA may come knocking and he might work his way back up.
