Key Player Ruled Out For Pistons-Heat Game
USA TODAY Sports

On Wednesday evening, the Miami Heat  will host the Detroit Pistons in Florida for their first game of the 2023-24 season.

For the game, the Heat will be without Josh Richardson, who is out due to a foot injury.

Via The Heat: "#DETvsMIA INJURY UPDATE: Josh Richardson (foot) and Haywood Highsmith (knee) have both been ruled out of tomorrow night's game vs the Pistons."

Richardson signed with the Heat over the offseason and is coming off a year where he played for the New Orleans Pelicans and San Antonio Spurs.

He averaged 10.1 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.1 steals per contest while shooting 43.1% from the field and 36.5% from the three-point range in 65 games.

The 30-year-old was the 40th pick in the 2015 NBA Draft and spent the first four seasons of his career with the Heat.

Over eight seasons in the league, Richardson has played for the Heat, Celtics, Mavs, Pelicans, Spurs and 76ers.

His career averages are 11.8 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists per contest while shooting 42.8% from the field and 36.5% from the three-point range in 503 regular season games (he has also appeared in 30 NBA playoff games).

The Heat are coming off a year where they were the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference but were able to reach the NBA Finals (they lost to the Denver Nuggets in five games).

The franchise has been to the Finals twice (and Eastern Conference Finals three times) over the previous four seasons.
