Jimmy Butler makes troubling claim after Heat miss out on Damian Lillard

"Yo NBA, man. Y'all need to look into the Bucks for tampering. Y'all do. Just gonna put that out there. Y'all didn't hear it from me, but I heard it through somebody." 

The Bucks trade came out of nowhere. Until the deal was announced, Miami was still considered a front-runner for Lillard. The Toronto Raptors were also rumored to be in the mix. Yet, Milwaukee found a way to get a three-team deal over the line. Now, Lillard will team up with Giannis Antetokounmpo and directly threaten the Heat in the Eastern Conference. 

Butler's comments may come across as sour grapes, but the NBA has a duty to look into the claim. If Milwaukee is found guilty, they would likely face a penalty. Yet, Lillard would still reside in Milwaukee and the Heat would still be short on elite talent heading into the new season. 

Miami could still add a new star before the trade deadline in February. This summer, the Heat have moved to accommodate adding another high-usage player to their roster. Miami has gotten weaker. Pat Riley and Erik Spoelstra should scramble to see who else is available on the trade market.

Even if Miami does pivot, though, it's unlikely they will get somebody with the skill level of Lillard. The Heat are in a tough spot. Butler has a right to feel aggrieved at how the situation has played out. Still, with the new NBA season right around the corner, Miami may have to show patience if it wants to bounce back in the trade market.

Lillard wanted to play in Miami, but his desire to win ultimately took precedence. Milwaukee will be a tough opponent moving forward and that's why it's a hammer blow to the Heat and the rest of the Eastern Conference.
