Jevon Carter finally explains why he wears different-colored shoes
USA TODAY Sports

Jevon Carter is known around the NBA for his perimeter shooting and relentless, hustling defense. Another thing he’s gained a reputation for is his style, especially when it comes to the sneakers he wears for every game.

In case you haven’t noticed, Carter wears mismatched-colored shoes every time he’s on the floor, regardless if it’s practice or actual games. On Tuesday, he explained why he does this.

Marketing strategy

Carter revealed that his sneaker style came to be as a result of his wanting people to notice the shoes he had on, whether he was on the bench or playing on the court.

"So, first, when I came into the league I was with And-1, right? I was the only athlete with And-1,” Carter said. “So, I was trying to help And-1 bring more awareness to the brand. And at that time, I wasn't really playing. So I'm like 'How can I bring awareness when I'm not playing?’”

“So I'm like, I'm gonna try to sit on the bench to wear I can be seen on TV with having two mismatched colored shoes on. At least that'll get the thought of like ‘Why is he wearing mismatched colored shoes? What shoes is he wearing?’ So from there, I just kinda stuck with it once my deal with And-1 was done,” Carter added.

His teammates love it

Carter joined the Chicago Bulls this past summer, signing as a free agent after a stellar showing with the Milwaukee Bucks. Much like with Milwaukee, Carter continues to be a sparkplug off the bench, providing 7.8 points per game and shooting 50 percent from three-point country.

Bulls wingman DeMar DeRozan said he’s all for Carter’s sneaker style, saying it even feels weird to see the latter wearing same-colored sneakers.

“I love them. I love them. I'm all for it,” DeRozan said. “I definitely endorse the mismatched shoes. I think one day I saw him with the same shoe on both feet and I got upset. Like man, where is the other colored shoe at?”
