Jacob Blake's father says Bucks contacted him, sent signed jersey

The Milwaukee Bucks initiated the NBA boycotts in response to the Jacob Blake shooting in Kenosha, Wisc., but that's not all they did.

Milwaukee reached out to the Blake family and sent an autographed jersey in an attempt to lift their spirits following the tragic event.

"I'm from Chicago, but now I am truly a Milwaukee Bucks fan," Jacob's father Jacob Blake Sr. said on CNN, according to TMZ Sports.

"They reached out to my son, sent him a jersey that was signed by the whole organization ... that made him smile."

Blake, an unarmed Black man, was shot seven times by police officers on Sunday and now is paralyzed. Blake was trying to enter his vehicle after breaking up a fight between two women when he was shot as he entered the driver's side door. His young children were in the vehicle at the time of the incident.

Blake's father credited the Bucks for helping bring out some positivity in his son following the shooting.

"The thing that made him smile was the Milwaukee Bucks. That made him smile."

The focal point of the resumption of the NBA season in Orlando has been on the Black Lives Matter movement and the fight against racial inequality. Since being in Orlando, many players have used their media availability as an opportunity to address racial inequality in America and bring awareness to the shootings of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, among others.

Players have been allowed to wear names of social justice causes on their jerseys and kneel during the national anthem to peacefully protest police brutality and racial inequality. The NBA also has painted "Black Lives Matter" on the courts in Orlando to bring more awareness to the cause.

While the league's efforts have been promising, they haven't necessarily accomplished what many NBA players desired before the season resumed.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver spoke with NBA players, coaches and team governors on Thursday to figure out the next steps in regards to further the league's efforts in support of racial equality and social justice.

The boycotting and postponement of games also reached other leagues as well. Various NFL teams canceled training camp on Thursday. The WNBA also opted to boycott games. The NHL decided to not play games on Thursday or Friday.
