The latest information comes soon after it was reported that Udoka had apologized for putting the Celtics in a "difficult situation" and had accepted his season-long suspension. It was first reported late Wednesday night that the 45-year-old was a possible "significant suspension" for his role in a consensual, improper and intimate relationship with a female staff member.
Udoka helped lead Boston to the NBA Finals during his firsts season at the helm in 2021-2022, where they fell to the Golden State Warriors in six games. He has been in a relationship with his fiancée, actress Nia Long, for over a decade and the couple has one son together.
The Celtics have named 34-year-old Joe Mazzulla the interim head coach. Mazzulla joined the franchise in June 2019, and this will be his first head-coaching gig.
