"I think I'm doing a great job" - Malik Beasley talks about his dual role with the Milwaukee Bucks

The Milwaukee Bucks are not only counting on Malik Beasley to knock down outside shots but are also relying on him to shut down the opposing team’s best perimeter player.

The task may be daunting, but Malik has learned to embrace it. He also believes he has thrived in performing the dual role.

“My role has been the same all year – defend and make shots. It’s been heightened because of the players I’m playing every game. And we’re on national TV, so I might be able to show that I can do both sides of the ball. I’m trying to be elite on both sides, and I think I’m doing a great job. I gotta continue that,” said Beasley.

A certified three-point artist

An offseason acquisition, Beasley has become one of Milwaukee’s top perimeter shooters as he is averaging 11.5 points a game on 44 percent shooting from three-point range.

In Milwaukee’s 119-98 win over the Philadelphia Sixers on Sunday, fired 20 points on 6-for-7 shooting from three-point territory. With the six trifectas, Beasley moved up to the eighth spot in Bucks history for having the most three-pointers made in a season.

Malik has already made 166 three-pointers in the 56 games he has played this season. Beasley overtook Khris Middleton (162 in 2021-22) and Todd Day (163 in 1994-95), and Michael Redd (163 in 2005-06). Ray Allen leads the list after making 229 three-pointers in the 2001-02 season.

Looking forward to facing LaMelo

Beasley’s stellar shooting display against Philadelphia helped Milwaukee secure its second straight win and its fifth in 12 games under Doc Rivers. The Bucks will try to build their longest winning streak under Rivers when they take on the Charlotte Bucks on Tuesday.

Milwaukee and Charlotte will actually play each other twice in three days as the Hornets will take their turn to host the Bucks on Thursday.

Beasley is already looking forward to his assignment for Milwaukee’s next two games.

“Next, I got the young fella (LaMelo Ball) back-to-back games. I gotta keep him down. He’s been averaging 30 a game, so I gotta do that. That’s my next focus,” Beasley said.
