Former NBA 2nd Overall Pick The Phoenix Suns Should Sign
USA TODAY Sports

Derrick Favors most recently played in the NBA during the 2021-22 season when he was a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The former Georgia Tech star averaged 5.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per contest while shooting 51.6% from the field in 39 regular season games.

Currently, he remains a free agent that is available to be signed by any team in the league.

I believe the Phoenix Suns should consider signing Favors.

Why?

Favors was initially the second pick in the 2010 NBA Draft and has played 12 seasons in the league.

While the 32-year-old has never made an All-Star Game, he's always been a very reliable role player.

The Suns, led by Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal, and Devin Booker, have one of the best rosters in the NBA and will need a productive bench to help them compete for the 2024 NBA Championship.

At this point, Favors could likely be signed for a veteran's minimum (or non-guaranteed) contract, so there would be no risk.

In addition to the Thunder, Favors has also played for the New Jersey Nets, New Orleans Pelicans and Oklahoma City Thunder.

His career averages are 10.6 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.2 blocks per contest while shooting 53.4% from the field in 790 regular season games (he has also appeared in 42 NBA playoff games).

The Suns also recently traded starting center Deandre Ayton (to the Portland Trail Blazers), and while they got Jusuf Nurkic in return, adding a player like Favors would provide good depth at the power forward/center position.
