Former Clippers Player Signs With Lakers

It was announced by Shams Charania of The Athletic that free agent big man Harry Giles has agreed to a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. Giles appeared in 16 games for the Brooklyn Nets this season before being waived, and has now been picked up by Los Angeles.

Giles spent a short amount of time with the LA Clippers prior to the 2021-22 season, where he competed for a backup center spot in training camp with Isaiah Hartenstein. The Clippers ultimately went with Hartenstein, who had an incredible campaign that led to him signing a multi-year deal with the New York Knicks.

Bouncing around the NBA since being drafted 20th overall in 2017, Giles has yet to find any real consistency at the NBA level, but has shown some flashes of ability. It's around the time of year when teams begin filling out their roster, signing players to both two-way and standard contracts to fill any vacancies on the roster.

While Giles likely doesn't have a direct path to minutes at the NBA level with the Lakers, he will provide them with some organizational front court depth. This is a solid low-risk move for Los Angeles, bringing in a big man who has played limited minutes at the NBA level this season, but still could have some upside the Lakers could find.
