Donovan Mitchell Is First NBA Player Since Dwyane Wade To Do This
David Richard-USA TODAY Sports

The Cleveland Cavaliers made a splash last NBA offseason when they acquired Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell in a blockbuster trade. The Cavaliers paid an unprecedented price to acquire him, hoping he would help take the team to the next level.

In some ways, he did accomplish that. The Cavaliers finished the regular season in fourth place in the Eastern Conference, earning homecourt advantage in the first round of the NBA Postseason. Unfortunately, that homecourt advantage didn’t do them much good as they were eliminated by the New York Knicks in five games.

That had to hurt the Cavaliers, and especially Mitchell, as New York is where he wanted to be traded to last offseason. But, he ended up in Cleveland and then had to watch his Cavaliers get steamrolled by the Knicks.

While Mitchell’s future in Cleveland is up in the air, as some people believe he will jettison as soon as possible, the franchise will make the most of having him there. Surrounding him with more talent makes sense as he is one of the best shooting guards the NBA has seen in recent history.

Just how good has Mitchell been to start his career? According to StatMuse, he is reaching milestones that haven’t been achieved since Dwyane Wade. Wade was the last shooting guard to score 10,000+ points in the first six seasons of their career before Mitchell accomplished it this past season.

That is certainly some elite company for Mitchell to find himself as Wade is one of the best to ever do it. Coming off of a career-high 28.3 points per game, the Louisville product is beginning to find himself and truly blossom into a two-way star.

However, for all of the personal accolades that he has racked up thus far, you can bet that he would trade them in for more team success. The scoring records are nice, but the one thing that Mitchell would assuredly want that Wade has is an NBA Championship ring.
