Detroit Pistons’ Monty Williams Gets Brutally Honest After Getting Torched By New York Knicks’ Shooting
David Butler II-USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Pistons losing a game is barely something that passes as news these days. With the frequency of Pistons’ losses in the 2023-24 NBA season, it’s more surprising to hear them win a game — which they failed to do again Monday night when they got torched by the hot-shooting New York Knicks.

Monty Williams Angrily Reacts To Detroit Pistons Getting Lit Up By The Knicks

The Knicks used their excellent outside shooting to demolish Detroit, and it’s something that got the ire of Pistons head coach Monty Williams.

I don’t care about their team. I couldn’t care less. Those guys, the way they got those 3s. I don’t want to be a part of that story,” Monty said following the Pistons’ 124-99 loss at Madison Square Garden, per Stefan Bondy of the New York Post.

Perhaps Williams should be more direct about a particular reason why his team allowed the Knicks to go off for 19 3-point makes against the Detroit Pistons. Eleven of those 3-pointers came from one man, with Donte DiVincenzo going 11/20 from behind the arc.

He was hot all game long and the Pistons simply did not have an answer for him. Then again, the Pistons are a 12-team win so far this season for many reasons. For one, they are among the worst defensively, with 120.2 points allowed per game. Detroit’s opponents are also recording a 55.9 effective field goal percentage on the season.

Now on a seven-game losing skid, Williams and the Pistons get back to the drawing board in hopes of finding a solution to their woes. They are scheduled to face the Minnesota Timberwolves on the road this Wednesday. The Timberwolves, by the way, are No. 1 in the entire NBA with a 39.0 3-point shooting percentage.
