Chicago Bulls Release Former NBA 3rd Overall Pick
USA TODAY Sports

Derrick Favors recently signed a training camp deal with the Chicago Bulls.

However, the former Georgia Tech star has now been waived and will likely go to their G League affiliate (the Windy City Bulls).

Via The Chicago Bulls: "Roster Update: We have waived Derrick Favors and Kahlil Whitley."

Favors most recently played in the NBA during the 2021-22 season when he was a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

That year, he played in 39 games and had averages of 5.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per contest while shooting 51.6% from the field.

This past season, Favors signed a ten-day contract with the Atlanta Hawks, but he did not appear in a game.

Favors was initially the third pick in the 2010 NBA Draft and has spent 12 seasons in the league playing for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Utah Jazz, New Orleans Pelicans and New Jersey Nets.

His career averages are 10.6 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.2 blocks per contest while shooting 53.4% from the field in 790 regular season games.

The 32-year-old has also appeared in 42 NBA playoff games, so he has good experience.

Now that Favors will probably play for the Windy City Bulls, he will be a name to watch over the next few months.

If he plays well, the Bulls (or another team) could sign him to a ten-day contract.

As for the Bulls, they are coming off a year where they were the tenth seed in the Eastern Conference with a 40-42 record.
