Celtics star Jaylen Brown shares powerful message in wake of Daunte Wright shooting

Celtics star Jaylen Brown used his postgame media availability following Boston's 116-115 win over the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday night to discuss racial inequality. 

Per MassLive's Souichi Terada:

"If you're watching this — listening or tuning in — I just want you to know that your life has value. So much value. But they're trying so hard to make you feel otherwise. My life has value. My life had value before I played for the Celtics and then real long after. At some point, you realize what you're dealing with.

"The power has and always will be with the people. You gotta stand up and fight. What other solution do we have?"

Brown's comments come in the wake of 20-year-old Black man Daunte Wright getting shot and killed by a police officer Sunday in a suburb of Minneapolis. 

The officer involved in the shooting, Kim Potter, allegedly mistook her firearm for a stun gun during a traffic stop, Brooklyn Center Police Chief Tim Gannon said, resulting in the killing of Wright. Both Potter and Gannon have since resigned. 

Wright's death came nearly one year after George Floyd was killed by Officer Derek Chauvin in Minneapolis. Chauvin is currently facing murder charges and his trial is ongoing. 

Brown has frequently used his postgame media availability to speak out about racial inequality and is often seen as a leader when it comes to social justice issues. The 24-year-old also drove 15 hours to his home state of Georgia to lead a peaceful protest in the wake of Floyd's death in May 2020.
