Bucks GM John Horst addresses Giannis Antetokounmpo contract rumors
Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo (34) Michael McLoone-USA TODAY Sports

The Milwaukee Bucks are looking to give Giannis Antetokounmpo a contract extension. General manager John Horst addressed it to the Athletic and believes that, “He is the most incredible human, superstar, teammate, leader, I believe, in all of sports and we’re incredibly blessed to have him.”

This is a sign that Horst isn’t going to have any problems trying to offer him a contract extension, but the question is will Giannis Antetokounmpo accept it? On his current contract, he is owed over $45 million for the next two years. Antetokounmpo has a player option for the 2025-2026 season as well, according to Spotrac. If he opts into that he will be owed over $51 million for that season.

He isn’t projected to be an unrestricted free agent until after the 2025-2026 season. Giannis Antetokounmpo is only 28 years old and is the best player in the history of the Milwaukee Bucks franchise. It may appear as if their championship window has closed with an older roster, but we will see how that goes.

In the month of September 2023, the Milwaukee Bucks can offer a three-year contract extension worth $173 million, but it is unknown if Giannis Antetokounmpo will accept that contract extension and ESPN’s Brian Windhorst has mentioned it because of the state of the current Bucks roster.

This is why rumors were going around earlier in the offseason about Giannis Antetokounmpo leaving the Milwaukee Bucks at some point but just forget about that. General manager John Horst needs to do whatever he can in order to keep him happy.

Keeping the core of Brook Lopez, Jrue Holiday, and Khris Middleton is a very good thing, but the bench needs to be much younger and more helpful. Lopez is 35 years old, Middleton is 31 years old, and Holiday is 33 years old. Giannis Antetokounmpo will be dealing with a new head coach this season. Mike Budenholzer is out and Adrain Griffin Jr. is in.

It will be interesting to see how the Milwaukee Bucks keep the two-time MVP and Finals MVP happy throughout the rest of his career with the franchise. Last season in 63 games played averaged 31.1 PPG, 11.8 RPG, 5.7 APG, 0.8 BPG, and 0.8 SPG. He is 28 years old.

The rumors of Giannis Antetokoumpo leaving the Milwaukee Bucks need to be put to bed by general manager John Horst making him a contract extension offer and then Antetokounmpo accepting it.
