Anthony Davis jokes about boycotting Disney World after months in bubble

Anthony Davis and the Los Angeles Lakers closed out their months-long stay in the NBA bubble at Walt Disney World with an NBA title, but the superstar still wouldn’t mind avoiding the “The Most Magical Place on Earth” for awhile.

Closing out an unprecedented NBA season with a championship made the lengthy amount of time the Lakers spent in Orlando, Fla., well worth the time. That said, it stands to reason being quarantined in Walt Disney World since early July was a challenging experience for players, coaches, team and league staff and everyone else who played a role in somehow pulling off the remarkable accomplishment of completing the season.

Appearing Tuesday night on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” Davis made a crack about avoiding Walt Disney World like the plague for the foreseeable future.

“Not for at least two years,” Davis said of any potential visit to the iconic theme park. “We even talked about boycotting playing the Orlando Magic for a while.”

Davis obviously has good reason for wanting to make vacation plans that have nothing to do with Disney World, and the line about boycotting any travel to Florida to play the Magic topped off his well-crafted joke.

NBA teams began to descend upon the Orlando bubble on July 7, which was part of Phase 4 of the league’s resumption-of-play plan. Phase 5, from July 22 to 29, consisted of team scrimmages. Phase 6 followed, which was when regular-season seeding games got underway at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

Given the amount of time limited to one location, Davis’ thoughts on a potential Disney World vacation in the coming months, even years, presumably represents the opinion of many of his fellow NBA players, and for good reason.
