Andre Drummond is pegged as a free agent to watch this offseason

Chicago Bulls center Andre Drummond figures to generate plenty of interest from teams across the NBA, thanks to his stellar play despite limited minutes playing behind or alongside Nikola Vucevic at times. With the Bulls’ front office opting to keep the soon-to-be unrestricted free agent at the trade deadline rather than send him away for several assets, there’s a real chance he could be on the move this summer.

Drummond has become relevant again

The last few seasons have seen Drummond bounce from one team to another. Despite being a former All-Star and All-NBA team member, the former Kansas star was seen as a relic of a bygone era in the NBA. With teams valuing floor spacing and shooting more than ever, Drummond’s traditional back-to-the-basket style was viewed as outdated.

However, this season, Drummond is showing he still has plenty of gas left in the tank, averaging 8.4 points and 8.9 rebounds in 17 minutes of game time per night. This resurgence in his play will no doubt attract the attention of teams looking for a strong rim protector and rebounder.

“Just a few short years ago, it felt like the NBA was going to transition away from traditional centers for a while. The Golden State Warriors had popularized small-ball, and few players were as nitpicked as the old-school bigs like Andre Drummond,” Andy Bailey wrote.

“But the Chicago Bulls center hung around just long enough to see a resurgence at his position led by Nikola Jokic and Joel Embiid. Now, after playing at or near the league minimum for each of his last four seasons, Drummond might be proving worth a bigger exception this summer.”
