Watch: 'This one is on me'- Denny Hamlin takes the blame for Texas Cup race spin and underserved result
Michael C. Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

Chase Elliott prevailed at the NASCAR Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway and ended his 42-race long winless streak. But, his win didn’t come easy as he was fighting Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin wheel-to-wheel for the majority of the race.

All of this culminated near the end of the race when Denny Hamlin tried to make a move on Elliott, which led to the pair making contact. The JGR Racing driver then spun into the outside wall near turn 4 and ended his race. This ruined a probable P2 finish. Following this, Hamlin spoke about the result on his podcast Action Detrimental and added how it was his fault for the unsafe move.

I think we’ve led every race this season, and not like bulls**t-led. So this is a really, really, really, fun year for me so far, because every week. I know I am one of the top three guys on speed, but damn, two weeks in a row of not getting the finish we deserved. This one’s on me for sure. Denny Hamlin via Action Detrimental Podcast

Hamlin showcased his brilliant mindset and also showered praise towards Chase Elliott for his win. The No.11 Toyota Camry XSE driver seems to be in a hot streak of form this season and will definitely want to bounce back during the next race at Talladega.

Denny Hamlin shares his thoughts on his actions leading to the incident with Chase Elliott

During the same podcast, Denny Hamlin revealed what he was thinking before his collision with Chase Elliott. The driver added how he thought he would fight overtake the Hendrick Motorsport in the last few laps to obtain the victory.

I think that caution happened, and there were 5 or 6 laps to go, and I’m like, ‘Well, sh*t.’…if he clears me if I have two or three laps, I’ll get back around him. I mean, that’s my irrational confidence, but that’s what I think will happen. Denny Hamlin said.

Hamlin’s wishes didn’t come true as the driver couldn’t successfully pass Elliott. But, after all that transpired the JGR driver still seemed to be in good spirits as he believes he has one of the best cars this season and will continue fighting at the front.
