On Wednesday, Russian media outlet RT reported that Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, the father of unbeaten UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, is in a coma inside a military hospital in Moscow.
According to the report, Abdulmanap was hospitalized earlier this month with suspected pneumonia. RT didn't mention if his condition is related to the coronavirus pandemic.
UFC boss Dana White tweeted messages of support for the Nurmagomedov family ahead of Wednesday's "Fight Night" card taking place in Jacksonville, Fla.:
Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov is a true martial artist who lives a life of pride, honor and respect. He instilled those same values in his son, world champion Khabib, at an early age and was always in his corner throughout his career. (1/2) pic.twitter.com/ELVPKoEhZF

I know how close Khabib is with his father and I’m saddened to hear about his current state. My thoughts are with Abdulmanap and the Nurmagomedov family as he continues to fight (2/2)

Khabib was originally scheduled to fight at UFC 249, but the event was relocated to Florida and postponed to last Saturday due to the pandemic. Travel restrictions prohibited Nurmagomedov from leaving Russia in time to defend his title.
Justin Gaethje defeated Tony Ferguson in the UFC 249 main event to claim the interim lightweight crown.
Earlier this week, former two-division champion Conor McGregor teased a summer bout against Gaethje, but White recently told ESPN Chicago that the plan is for Gaethje to face Nurmagomedov at the UFC's "Fight Island" location.
As things stand on May 13, McGregor would likely fight the winner of that contest.
