MVP vs. Wonderboy? UFC’s Michael Venom Page Explains Why Fight Isn’t So Fan-Friendly
© Sam Navarro-USA TODAY Sports

A fight between MVP and 'Wonderboy' isn't all it's cracked up to be, according to 'Venom' himself.

Since the day Michael 'Venom' Page signed with the UFC, fans have been asking for this striker's delight matchup. However, Page's first test wouldn't come against Stephen Thompson, it'd be vs. Kevin Holland.

Page gave us a preview on what's to come in his UFC run with a solid performance over Holland at UFC 299. It was in Vice City where MVP pieced up Holland across three rounds to earn a unanimous decision victory.

With the jitters of a promotional debut out of the way, Page looks into future fights in the welterweight division–one of those being the aforementioned 'Wonderboy'.

MVP was brutally honest about what the fantasy fight would look like.

"Two positives doesn't always make a positive," Page said on 'The MMA Hour'. "What will be a great fight for me and Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thompson will look like a terrible fight for everybody else because we'll go back into autopilot of our point-scoring system.

"There's a lot of battles that happen without anything really happening. Because as soon as I'm about to do throw that punch, I can sense that he's pulling, he's got that counter ready, and then I'll break away... So there's gonna be a lot of not much happening, I could be also wrong, and it could just be in an amazing fight. But from my experience of fighting high-level point-fighters and at my skill, it slows everything down."

Page and Thompson have had the pleasure of training together before, filming a 'Technique Tuesday' video for Wonderboy's YouTube channel last year.

After exchanging knowledge with the UFC's 'Karate Kid', MVP reveals why he isn't overeager to step across the cage from a fellow striker in Stephen Thompson.

"I just think the guy is an amazing guy. I'm sure everyone thinks he's an amazing guy, but just seriously, meeting him, spending time with him, I have so much love and respect for him. Would that be my first choice? Not at all. Am I a prize fighter? And if it's presented, would I take it? Yes, of course," Page admitted.

"But, yeah, I don't think it's as good as everybody thinks it may be."

'No,' UFC CEO Dana White Doesn't Like Custom UFC Walkouts

Page was one of two fighters at UFC 299 to have a bespoke fighter walkout. Brazil's Michel Pereira choreographed a dance routine, and Page followed later in the night with an Undertaker-style entrance to the octagon.

The WWE's actual Undertaker lauded page for the walkout, exclaiming "nice entrance" on X. However, UFC CEO Dana White admitted he wasn't a fan of the personalized entrances.

"No [I'm not a fan of the walkouts]," White said in the UFC 299 post-fight scrum.

At the same scrum, Page pointed out that he just likes to "make it a show," explaining that the spectacle "helps me just relax when I'm putting on a show. It helps the time fly by and me have the best time ever. When I'm in that mode, I feel like I'm the most dangerous."
