Miesha Tate Pursuing Rematch For Next UFC Fight After Bounce-Back Victory: 'It Bothers Me Actually...'
Dustin Safranek-USA TODAY Sports

Former UFC bantamweight champion Miesha Tate wants to put an exclamation point on one of her past rivalries after getting back in the win column last Saturday.

Tate defeated Julia Avila by third-round submission at UFC Fight Night: Dariush vs. Tsarukyan last weekend. She snapped a two-fight losing skid by putting on arguably one of the most dominant performances of her illustrious UFC career.

After a triumphant return to the bantamweight division, Tate feels she has what it takes for one last run at the title. After a five-year retirement from 2016 to 2021, Tate seems rejuvenated and happy in and out of the cage.

As she ponders her next Octagon venture, "Cupcake" wants to have a rematch of one of the biggest wins of her career at UFC 300.

Miesha Tate Targets Second Joust With Holly Holm

During a recent appearance on The MMA Hour, Tate expressed profound interest in running it back with fellow former champion Holly Holm.

"It bothers me, actually, because people still think for some reason that I was just getting my ass kicked in that fight," Tate exclaimed. "People say, 'Man that was the greatest comeback ever!' ... Yeah, if I didn't get the submission, it would've been a draw...I don't think many people remember that. And it kinda pisses me off... She was edging me on the feet, I'd give her that, but I absolutely smashed her on the ground. It would be fun to run that back and write the story a little better."

Holm hasn't fought since a loss to Mayra Bueno Silva (later overturned to a no contest) back in July. Before that, she won three of her last four fights, including wins over former title challengers Raquel Pennington and Irene Aldana.

Tate won the UFC bantamweight title by fifth-round submission at UFC 196. It is regarded as one of the best comebacks in UFC history. But while Holm seemed minutes away from arguably winning on the judges' scorecards, it was later revealed that a draw was on the cards.

A Tate vs. Holm rematch could make sense for both sides, and "Cupcake" wants to make sure that their rematch isn't as competitive as their first clash.
