UFC flyweight contenders Maycee Barber and Erin Blanchfield appear to be setting up quite the bad-blood collision inside the Octagon down the line.

Both women have risen into the top five at 125 pounds, with "The Future" recently ascending to #4 with a sixth straight win against Katlyn Cerminara at UFC 299 and "Cold Blooded" getting the better of Taila Santos last August in Singapore to climb to #2.

In addition to going back and forth over a potential title shot, the pair have history after Barber withdrew from a planned fight with Blanchfield due to injury back in 2021.

That is among the reasons why Blanchfield has given a less than positive take about Barber, accusing her of cherry-picking an easier route up the flyweight ladder than others and branding her rival "pathetic."

Suffice to say, "The Future" sees things differently...

Barber: Blanchfield Beat Girls After I Already Changed Them...

During a recent interview with Sportskeeda MMA, Barber's attention was turned to the criticism from Blanchfield, who is set to headline this weekend's Atlantic City-held UFC Fight Night opposite another top five contender in Manon Fiorot.

"The Future" hit back at her peer's remarks by suggesting that Blanchfield's path to the top was made easier by Barber already defeating and "changing" opponents such as JJ Aldrich and Miranda Maverick.

"Erin fought my leftovers. Erin fought JJ Aldrich after I beat her. Erin fought Miranda Maverick after I beat her. Erin's fighting the leftovers, and she's fighting girls after I've already changed them," Barber said. "JJ Aldrich, after I beat her, was never the same fighter that she was ever again. She was always (scared) of getting hit.

"Erin doesn't have the power that I have. So, for her to say that, I think it's just completely ignorant and uneducated," Barber continued. "I think she's just trying to create the storyline and the drama."

Barber also dismissed the suggestion that she avoided fighting Blanchfield, insisting she accepted "Cold Blooded" as a replacement opponent for Montana De La Rosa before suffering an injury herself.

Nevertheless, the latest back and forth has continued to fan the flames of a feud between two flyweights who look set to remain toward the top of the division for a considerable time to come.

And while Barber is hoping to serve as backup for champion Alex Grasso's planned trilogy with Valentina Shevchenko later this year, Blanchfield has the chance to stake her claim for top contender status at the expense of Fiorot this Saturday night.
