Derek Brunson Hits Back At Gegard Mousasi's Fight Dodging Claims: 'Stop The Cap'
Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Former UFC middleweights Derek Brunson and Gegard Mousasi are stoking the flames of a potential fight in the PFL next year.

Brunson had a triumphant PFL debut last month at the 2023 PFL World Championship against Ray Cooper III. He won the fight by unanimous decision and has some momentum building as he prepares for the 2024 PFL season.

Brunson intends to fight in the PFL's light heavyweight season next year, but a timeline for his fighting return remains uncertain as of this writing. After the PFL purchased Bellator, a slew of potential matchups across the PFL are now on the table.

One potential fight is with Mousasi, who accused Brunson of declining a recent PFL fight offer. Hours later, Brunson has hit back at Mousasi's claims.

Derek Brunson Blasts 'Goofy' Gegard Mousasi After Fight Offer Claims

In a recent tweet, Brunson dismisses Mousasi's claims.

Stop the cap [Gegard Mousasi]. No one is avoiding you," Brunson replied. "I’m enjoying the holidays with my family and kids. I already missed Thanksgiving. I won’t accept a fight that I can’t dedicate a camp to. Goofy a*** boy."

Mousasi is looking to snap a two-fight losing skid after defeats to Johnny Eblen and Fabian Edwards. He lost to Bellator middleweight title to Eblen at Bellator 282.

Brunson snapped his skid by defeating Cooper after some struggles at the end of his UFC tenure. He signed with the PFL earlier this year after a loss to Dricus du Plessis at UFC 285.

Mousasi and Brunson could be on a collision course in 2024, and the PFL would be wise to book the matchup to provide some finality to their growing beef.
