Chris Curtis Slams Dominick Cruz's Commentary Of UFC 297 Win: 'This Is Why I Watch Fights With The Volume Off'

Middleweight fighter Chris Curtis was not pleased with what he heard from Dominick Cruz while watching back his victory at UFC 297 this past weekend.

While his teammate fell short in Saturday's championship headliner, Curtis brought a victory back to Xtreme Couture courtesy of his efforts earlier on the main card.

"The Action Man" added to Canada's woes by sending its group of male fighters to a sixth defeat on the night, narrowly outpointing Marc-André Barriault on two of the three judges' scorecards for the split decision.

The contest wasn't exactly a barnburner and received some flak online, with many suggesting that Curtis and Barriault fought in a lackluster way until the final exchanges of the fight.

According to Curtis, however, that narrative is down to one man's subpar commentary...

Curtis Hits Back At Cruz's 'Sparring' Description Of UFC 297 Fight

During a recent appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Curtis reflected on his successful trip to Toronto, Canada, where he bounced back from a two-fight winless run.

While he picked up a victory, not everything was positive for "The Action Man." Having long taken issue with the commentary for his fights, Curtis laid into Cruz for his work at UFC 297.

"I get sh*t on by 'DC' and Dominick Cruz every time I fight. No matter what’s happening," Curtis said. "'DC' was kinder than before (at UFC 297), but Dominick Cruz is just like, 'It looks like he’s sparring,' and blah, blah, blah... He’s (Barriault's) been knocked out once, I have been knocked out once. It’s not going to be easy to knock the other down, it’s just not. I hit him with some sh*t that I’ve dropped people with and he just kind of looked at it. I elbowed him a few times, I went to move in, he’s just staring at me... I hear Dominick Cruz say, 'It’s just like a sparring match,' and then, not to be a d*ck, but people are going to latch on to what the commentary says, and now I hear, 'He didn’t even fight hard, it was a low-energy sparring match.' Stand in front of me and let me hit you the same way.

"Marc-André Barriault is a f*cking tank. The dude’s been stopped once. I don’t know where you guys found that man, but he’s a tank," Curtis continued. "I hit him with everything and the kitchen sink, and he stayed on his feet and he kept throwing back. The dude hit me with some sh*t and my face still hurts today. But because of Dominick Cruz’s stupid f*cking commentary, I get to hear, 'It’s a sparring match and low volume.' ... This is why I watch fights with the volume off."

Curtis isn't the only one to take issue with Cruz's commentary this past weekend, with many questioning his understanding or lack thereof when it comes to the scoring criteria.

While he may not have set the Octagon alight in the manner some had expected, Curtis' UFC career hasn't been short on excitement and highlight reel-worthy moments. That includes brutal knockouts of Phil Hawes, Brendan Allen, and Joaquin Buckley.

Having now risen to #13 in the middleweight rankings following his return to winning ways, Curtis will look to return to those kind of violent finishes en route to a spot in the top 10 next time out.
