Belal Muhammad will be training in Dagestan, Russia, in anticipation of his rumored title fight with UFC welterweight king Leon Edwards.

Muhammad retweeted an image of himself and Islam Makhachev at the airport preparing to leave for Dagestan, captioned, "Belal Muhammad will soon head to Dagestan to prepare for his title fight against Leon Edwards."

"It's over for Leon, Belal is the next champ!" UFC featherweight contender Mosvar Evloev replied in the comments. Muhammad's Dagestan intentions were further validated by his manager Ali Abdelaziz in another post:

Dagestan is the home country of famed UFC champions Khabib Nurmagomedov and Islam Makhachev, as well as a host of other Russian MMA phenoms. Their pressure-wrestling style is currently plaguing professional MMA, and it should complement Muhammad's grappling prowess nicely.

Champion Edwards has marked UFC 300 as the date for his third title defense. The British-Jamaican fighter spoke to reporters at Villa Park on December 30:

"I will defend my belt in April at UFC 300… Then hopefully in the Summertime get a fight back home in Birmingham. I’m in talks with the UFC, so hopefully we can get it done." Quote h/t TheFightFanatic

If this is true, UFC 300 would receive its first title fight. UFC CEO Dana White has already revealed three fights for the landmark card, among which contain two former champions.

UFC 300 now looks like this:

  • Belal Muhammad vs. Leon Edwards; Rumored WW title fight
  • Jiri Prochazka vs. Aleksandar Rakic; Light Heavyweight
  • Aljamain Sterling vs. Calvin Kattar; Featherweight
  • Bo Nickal vs. Cody Brundage; Middleweight
