Amanda Nunes, Miesha Tate & Other MMA Personalities React After Irene Aldana Puts On Incredible Toe-To-Toe Slugfest With Karol Rosa At UFC 296
Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

UFC 296 presented one of the last opportunities for MMA fighters to put on an amazing and award-winning performance inside the cage. And it was there in Las Vegas where Irene Aldana and Karol Rosa left it all in the Octagon.

For fifteen full minutes, the two ladies laid into each other in a back-and-forth brawl that entertained everyone inside the T-Mobile Arena and watching at home. And while it was Aldana who got the judges' nod, both women put on an instant classic that is worthy of a late nomination for 2023 Fight of the Year.

Rosa got off to a great start in the opening round, coming forward on the front foot and doing damage to Aldana's leg early with low kicks. Aldana had her moments and did damage upstairs, but it was clear Aldana was left uncomfortable after just five minutes.

Both laid into one another in the second round, though it seemed Aldana's striking had cleaner landings. Aldana, however, was still feeling the effects of the leg kicks by Rosa. Aldana battled back with the more effective striking once again in the third round to earn the 29-28 scorecards.

This was Aldana's first fight since losing to Amanda Nunes in a bantamweight title fight back in June — a fight that marked Nunes's last in the Octagon.

Rosa is now 2-2 after previously having a six-fight win streak.
