Volkov stops Rozenstruik in UFC Fight Night 207 headliner
UFC heavyweight Alexander Volkov. Per Haljestam-USA TODAY Sports

Alexander Volkov went toe-to-toe with Jairzinho Rozenstruik and got the better of it.

The former Bellator MMA and M-1 Global champion showcased the power in his hands, earning a technical knockout victory over Rozenstruik in the UFC Fight Night 207 headliner at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on Saturday. Volkov (35-10, 9-4 UFC) ended the contest with a volley of power punches 2:12 into the opening round.

Volkov blended punches and kicks in typical fashion in the early going, but the action really picked up when Rozenstruik attempted to counter one of the kicks with a wild haymaker. “Bigi Boy” became reckless at that point, winging power punches at his taller opponent. Volkov took everything Rozenstruik (12-4, 6-4 UFC) had to offer, stood in the pocket and backed him up with a right hand. “Drago” then walked the Suriname native down against the fence and sent him staggering with another right. A series of heavy alternating lefts and rights followed — including one that dislodged Rozenstruik’s mouthguard — before referee Herb Dean decided he had seen enough.

Rozenstruik has dropped back-to-back fights for the first time in his mixed martial arts career.

Evloev Dominates Ige

Movsar Evloev is looking like the total package.

The former M-1 Global champion sent a message to the rest of the UFC’s featherweight division, as he authored a complete performance in a lopsided unanimous decision triumph against Dan Ige. All three cageside judges saw the fight in favor of Evloev: 30-26, 30-27, 30-27.

Evloev (16-0, 6-0 UFC) set the tone in Round 1 when he rattled Ige (15-6, 7-5 UFC) with a jumping knee. While Ige survived, he wore the damage from his opponent, who connected with multiple crisp punching combinations to the head of the Xtreme Couture product. When Ige began to find the range on his own offense, Evloev shifted to wrestling. The 28-year-old Russian landed multiple takedowns, transitioned from one dominant position to another and battered Ige with ground-and-pound from above.

Evloev has won six consecutive fights in  Ultimate Fighting Championship competition.

Almeida Drops, Finishes Trizano

Lucas Almeida had to survive some adversity to get a victory in his Octagon debut. After getting dropped in the opening stanza, the former Jungle Fight champion rallied for a technical knockout victory against “The Ultimate Fighter 27” winner Michael Trizano in a featherweight affair. The bout was halted 55 seconds into Round 3.

Trizano rocked his Brazilian foe with a left hook, uppercut and a knee in the opening frame, but he may regret following his stunned opponent to the canvas, as Almeida was able to regain his bearings and take control down the stretch. He dropped Trizano (9-3, 3-3 UFC) with a counter left in Round 2 and moved into top position, where a clash of heads caused his foe to bleed profusely from a cut near his eye.

Almeida (14-1, 1-0 UFC) maintained his momentum in the final period when  he slipped a punch and dropped Trizano with a left hook to the chin. From there, a few follow-up strikes on the canvas sealed the deal, sending Trizano to his first career KO/TKO defeat.

Silva Secures 15th Career Finish

Karine Silva had an Octagon debut to remember, as she submitted Poliana Botelho in a flyweight showdown. The Dana White’s Contender Series alum forced her foe to tap with a brabo choke at the 4:55 mark of Round 1. Silva (15-4, 1-0 UFC) has finished all of her professional triumphs inside the distance, with 11 coming inside of a round.

After a measured beginning on the feet from both sides, Silva cracked Botelho (8-5, 3-4 UFC) with an overhand right before immediately powering her way into a takedown. From there, Silva transitioned to the fight-ending maneuver and  locked in the choke in the waning seconds of the period. It was only a matter of moments before Botelho asked out of the fight.

Osbourne Counter Stops Adashev

Ode Osbourne flashed his power against Bellator veteran Zarrukh Adashev, scoring a quick technical knockout victory in a flyweight affair. “The Jamaican Sensation” stopped the contest 1:01 into the first round for his third victory in his last four promotional appearances.

Osbourne (11-4, 3-2 UFC) floored Adashev (4-4, 1-3 UFC) with a perfectly-placed counter right hook to the chin as he slid away from danger during an exchange.  Osbourne then pounced on his dazed adversary and unloaded with a series of unanswered punches and hammerfists before referee Keith Peterson dove in to save Adsahev from further damage.

Menifield Elbows Bludgeon Mozharov

Ex-Dana White’s Contender Series competitor Alonzo Menifield was dominant in a technical knockout victory against Octagon newcomer Askar Mozharov in a light heavyweight matchup. Menifield battered his foe with elbows from the mounted crucifix to force the stoppage at the 4:40 mark of Round 1. Menifield has won three of his last four promotional appearances.

Mozharov, who was the subject of controversy during fight week for attempts to alter his record, rarely had an opportunity to get going. Menifield grounded his Ukrainian foe immediately and patiently worked from top position. When Mozharov (19-13, 0-1 UFC) returned to his feet, Menifield planted him on his back again in short order before transitioning to the mounted crucifix. From there,  Menifield gradually increased the intensity of his assault before unloading with a barrage of heavy elbows on his defenseless adversary. Mozharov has been finished in all 13 of his professional defeats.
