Zach Remillard Gets a Call to The Show
Rick Scuteri-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago White Sox placed Yoan Moncada on the IL today with back inflammation. Moncada's ongoing back issues stem from a protruding disc in his back that landed him on the IL in April. The third baseman has struggled since coming off the injured list, and his return date is unclear.

Luckily for Chicago, the emergence of Jake Burger gives them quality depth at the position. Burger has seen time at third base and DH over 50 games and belted 15 homers. With Moncada out for the foreseeable future, Burger should see most of his time at the hot corner.

Nevertheless, Remillard makes a major league roster for the first time. The 29-year-old re-signed with the White Sox on a minor-league deal after reaching free agency after the 2022 season. The White Sox selected him in the 10th round of the 2016 draft, and he's been in their minor league system ever since. He finally reached Triple-A in 2021 and has slashed .244/.340/.376 since his promotion to Chicago's affiliate in Charlotte.

What's On Tap Next?

Remillard gives the White Sox a versatile bench option capable of playing seven positions across the diamond. It's been a long road to the majors for the utility man, who has finally earned the opportunity to make his big league debut.
