Yankees to Place Spark Plug Outfielder on IL

The New York Yankees' outfield depth has taken another hit.

On Friday, Jake Bauers landed on the 10-day injured list with a left rotator cuff contusion that could keep him down for a while, per team announcement. 

Fellow outfielder Franchy Cordero has been called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take Bauers' roster spot.

Bauer's injured his rotator cuff diving for a fly ball in the third game of a four game set with the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday.

Bauers received a cortisone shot and underwent an MRI on July 6, which revealed the prognosis of his injury.

The loss of Bauers is significant considering he is one of the outfielders, who has had to step up in Aaron Judge's absence. 

Bauers had served as a spark plug in the Yankee lineup, slashing .224/.312/.470 with a .782 OPS, seven home runs and 19 RBIs. 

Two additional outfield replacements, Greg Allen and Willie Calhoun, are also on the shelf for the Yankees currently as well. 

With Bauers out, the Yankees' outfield will consist of Harrison Bader in center field, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Billy McKinney, Oswaldo Cabrera and Cordero in the corner spots. Giancarlo Stanton could also see time in the outfield now, too.
