Yankees reportedly interested in Royals OF Andrew Benintendi

The New York Yankees are reportedly looking to bolster their outfield ahead of the Aug. 2 trade deadline.

According to a New York Post report from Dan Martin and Jon Heyman, the Yankees "have held talks" with the Kansas City Royals about trading for outfielder Andrew Benintendi.

Benintendi, 28, is batting .317/.387./402 with three home runs and 34 RBI in 82 games this season with the Royals.

According to the Post's report, the Royals' asking price for Benintendi, speculated to be "at least one good prospect," has been too rich for the Yankees thus far.

The Yankees likely won't be alone in their pursuit of Benintendi leading up to this year's trade deadline. Several teams, including the Philadelphia Phillies and Toronto Blue Jays, reportedly have Benintendi on their radar.

The Royals signed Benintendi to a one-year, $8.5M deal at the start of the year; he'll be an unrestricted free agent in 2023.

Barring a miraculous turnaround, the Kansas City Royals will miss the playoffs for the seventh-straight season.

The Royals are currently in last place in the American League Central (31-52); they're 14.0 games behind the Minnesota Twins for first-place and 12.5 games back of a wildcard spot.

The Yankees, meanwhile, have a comfortable lead atop the American League East, boasting an MLB-best 61-24 record.
