Yankees Fan Reminds Everyone Of A Jorge Posada Snub
Wendell Cruz-USA TODAY Sports

Getting into the National Baseball Hall of Fame is one of the most difficult things to do in sports, because it requires for a lot of people to agree on the fact that “X” player deserves the recognition.

Some players probably don’t belong in Cooperstown and have entered, while others deserve to be enshrined and still aren’t there.

It happens in life at all levels.

A former member of the New York Yankees had a very nice career and a good case for immortality.

Members of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America (BBWAA), however, decided he wasn’t even worth appearing on the ballot for a second straight year.

In the 2016-2017 voting period, Jorge Posada couldn’t even meet the 5% threshold to keep seeing his name on the ballot, in a year in which Ivan Rodriguez, Jeff Bagwell, and Tim Raines got in.

You could say Posada had a better career than most catchers would even dream of.

Posada’s Career Was Marvelous

“Totally random appreciation post for Jorge Posada • 4x WS Champion • 5x All-Star • 5x Silver Slugger • .273 BA, .374 OBP, .474 SLG • 5th MLB catcher with at least 1,500 hits, 350 doubles, 275 home runs, and 1,000 RBIs in a career. Shame that he isn’t in the Hall of Fame,” Yankees fan @NY_EvilEmpire tweeted.

Look at those numbers and understand that the vast majority of catchers couldn’t and can’t hit like that.

The five Silver Slugger awards prove that he was the best hitter at his position for a long time.

In short, he had both individual and collective success while playing Major League Baseball.

He was a key cog in the Bombers’ late-90s dynasty and in the 2000s, when they won the 2009 World Series.

Perhaps his case can be re-visited by a veterans’ committee.
