Would the Brewers pick up Jesus Aguilar from waivers?

Earlier today, the Miami Marlins announced that they have designated Jesus Aguilar for assignment. Not only is this a shocking move because Aguilar leads in every major offensive category for the Marlins, but it also comes at an odd time.

Aguilar is batting .236 with 15 home runs, 49 runs batted in, and 98 hits. He also led the team, among qualified hitters, in OBP at .286. The Marlins announced everyone but the ace of the staff, Sandy Alcantara, was available at the deadline.

Effective today, Aguilar will become available to every team, with many potential contenders who will consider adding his bat into their lineups.

Is a second stint with the Brewers possible?

There has been no news so far on whether or not the Brewers will reach out. However, if they have intentions of making the playoffs this year, adding another bat would be a big step in the right direction. While he isn’t the right type of bat the Brewers need since he struggles to get on base, he certainly increases the chances of the Brewers scoring runs.

The Brewers made a run at multiple bats during the trade deadline. They wanted another power bat, another person who could launch home runs for the team. Now, one of them is up for grabs.

The situation seems cut and dry but it is certainly interesting because of the pressure it may put on the Brewers’ front office. The Brewers have reassured their fans time and time again this season that their intentions are to make the playoffs. Trading Josh Hader perplexed fans and confused everyone about the real intentions of the team. However, Hader has an era of 7.22 as a Padre so he hasn’t been immensely missed yet.

Will the slugger make a Brewers comeback?

Whether he will or won’t is still a total question. No one has any real clue what the intentions of the Brewers’ front office are, including the Brewers players. The front office claimed they wanted to bring in a slugger to drive in runs, and while Aguilar may not get on base as much as people would like, he could do that for them.

According to MLB trade rumors, it would cost about $1.6M to acquire Aguilar for the remainder of the season. Money wasn’t a reported issue for a team that was really considering Josh Bell or Joc Pederson, so Aguilar’s price fit should be just fine.

Only time will tell what the Brewers’ intentions are, but they will have to work quickly if they want him on their roster.
