Wil Myers May Not Yet Be Done In San Diego

Wil Myers has spent several years in the San Diego Padres organization and has been a threat for power over the past several years.

However, the Padres declined Myers’ $20 million team option for 2023 and instead chose to pay him a $1 million buyout, making him a free agent.

But it appears that Myers may not be done yet in San Diego.

The Padres front office certainly isn’t ruling out a potential return to the team.

General manager A.J. Preller recently said that he likes Myers’ versatility and said that the front office would keep the door open for him to potentially re-sign.

AJ Preller tells Gwynn & Chris that Wil Myers can do a lot of different things and they let him know they're going to see how the offseason plays out and will have more conversations with Wil's side over the next few weeks. They didn't tell Wil's side this is it in SD.

Door Still Open For Myers To Return

Having Myers back would help the Padres fill the void at first base.

Josh Bell, who was acquired from the Washington Nationals in the Juan Soto deal at the trade deadline, has hit the free agent market.

While Bell could also return, Myers is certainly not out of the picture just yet and is an option at first base should the Padres choose to keep him around.

But with players such as former Padre Anthony Rizzo available out on the free agent market, it may be difficult for Myers to still find a spot with the Padres.

Regardless, he could be a valuable option as a designated hitter, first baseman, or outfielder with another team.

The New York Yankees are a team that could potentially use some outfield help, so they could be a team that targets Myers if he does not return to San Diego.
